At Iowa Speech Solutions, our passion lies in helping adults with neurological and medical communication challenges rebuild, adapt, and thrive. While that sounds broad, being intentional about what we don’t do is just as important as what we do specialize in.
🚫 What We Don’t Do
We are often contacted about a wide range of speech-language services, from early language delays to stuttering in children. However, our practice is exclusively focused on adults.
That means we do not:
• See newborn or pediatric clients
• Provide therapy for developmental stuttering that began in childhood
• Treat concussion or brain injury clients younger than age 15
This focus isn’t about exclusion — it’s about specializing as a therapist. If we feel we are not the right fit, or do not have the breadth of experience a client needs, we refer to others who do.
🎯 Why We Feel Specialization Matters
Speech-language pathology is an incredibly broad field, spanning every age group and communication needs imaginable. In our opinion, not too many clinicians can do all of it at the highest possible level.
I’m the first to admit — pediatrics is not my strength. My expertise, passion, and continuing education have always centered around adult neurological and medical speech therapy. Focusing here allows me to stay deeply informed, evidence-based, and connected to the unique needs of this population.
Our specialty areas are neurological and include (but are not limited to):
• Stroke and Aphasia recovery
• Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and concussion (ages 15+)
• Dementia and cognitive-communication disorders
• Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative diseases
• Voice disorders such as muscle tension dysphonia, vocal fold paralysis, or nodules
💬 The Takeaway
At Iowa Speech Solutions, our niche isn’t just what we do; it’s why we do it. Because you deserve therapy that’s specialized, focused, and designed for your goals.
